Momentum is the industry & alumni magazine for the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering. This being the first issue, all design, rationale and structure needed to be considered and established.Editorial Design, Graphic Design, Illustration2013 -
Interfaces is the alumni & industry magazine for Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto. The task was to reinvent the magazine with an updated, modern look using well considered type, layout and theme based imagery.Art Direction, Editorial Design, Graphic Design2012 -
Opt!ons is the alumni magazine for the Division of Engineering Science. For the first issue my involvement was to do an initial redesign of an existing format. With the second issue, we expanded the page count and developed the design further to accommodate feature article spreads as well as reoccuring sections.

A visual ID build around flexibility and simplicity. OTI is a leading developer of energy efficient lighting and display solutions based on organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Currently OTI's research centres around incredibly thin substrates or layers of material to produce potentially flexible display technologies. This application of materials over a surface area was the inspiration for the rounded square found in the logo. The logo and wordmark were designed with slight edge irregularities, only seen at very close range, to give the feel of a glowing boundry. Included here are cards, letters, posters, website, office iPad screens and office computer screens.Branding, Graphic Design, Print Design2012 -
Impact is the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto’s alumni and industry magazine. Published annually, the magazine features the talent and commitment of our alumni, faculty, students, and staff to engage our external stakeholders, industry associates, and the engineering community-at-large.
My role was to reinvent the magazine with an elegant, modern look using well considered type, layout and photography. Establish a cohesive design language from which future issues would draw upon. I worked closely with the editor from the very beginning while expanding the publication to twice its previous size. Provided additional support in the form of art direction and photography to achieve the project objectives more efficiently.

Poster, Business Card, Note & Address Label
I wanted to produce a full-sized (18" x 25") poster that would not only show design skill and taste but also highlight a personal brand. I used a selection of roughly chronological iPhone photos to give recipients a genuine look into my daily life and work. I also used written personal assessments from colleagues and clients to hopefully add an additional level of truth to the piece.Graphic Design, Photography2011 -
A self initiated effort to create a name and visual I.D. for a possible new design firm. We all found other jobs so the work wasn't needed but it was still a worthwhile personal exercise to go through.Branding, Graphic Design, Photography2011 -
Currently a personal project that is mostly undefined. A work-in-progress. Photos from my personal life collected over about a year. Shown here is a poster series to introduce the project.

Some simple custom covers for personal media files. The original artwork was mostly terrible and from wildly variable sources. Images were sourced from the web and then manipulated.Graphic Design2011 -
A select group of photos taken for University of Toronto Engineering from the last three years. Photos have been published in U of T Magazine (Winter 2011, Summer 2011), Engineering Welcome Guides (2009–2012), Guide to First Year (2009–2012), Prospective Student Guide (2009–2012), Engineering Applicant Guides (2010–2012), Impact Magazine, Opt!ons Newsletter, Engineering websites & Newsletters, Engineering Ads for The Globe & Mail/Toronto Star etc., + many reoccurring Recruitment & Outreach, Advancement campaigns.Photography, Digital Photography2011 -
A series of medium format images produced around the area where I grew up. Scans from negatives, no retouching.Photography2011 -
The Graditude 2011 poster series and pamphlet were created to give the campaign a direction and visual language from which future seasonal efforts would be produced. All pieces needed to stand out from other promotional material displayed around campus while maintaining a connection to the student community.
Shown here are final designs along with alternate directions based on the original brief. All photography shot by me on U of T front campus.Graphic Design, Photography, Copywriting2011 -
The concept was to use colours, imagery and a level of simplicity in all communications that would engage busy working professionals. Achieve this with a strong grid-based modern style and dark rich colours that lend themselves to easy information delivery. Quickly develop a visual system that would function accross various mediums and programs. Because of a merger within the faculty these new materials needed to be produced in the middle of a busy course schedule. We worked closely with members of the marketing and programing teams to ensure this solution was cohesive and complete. The design of these initial pieces was key to getting everyone onboard with the new approach.Graphic Design, Art Direction, Copywriting2011 -
These are designs from various stages of development. Work on this project also included front-end coding, cms templating, a user manual and training.
I used a highly modular grid based design to allow for endless design variation across multiple mediums. By using minimal design elements it to allowed the content to be the main focus. I created unique instances of this single design that would be distinct among the group without having the benefit of different logos or marks.
I was able to achieve a high level of execution while using a very rigid content management system. Additionally, I worked closely with the content creators from the very beginning to better understand the needs of the staff that would ultimately populate the sites.Web Design, Graphic Design, Photography2011 -
Visual I.D. carried over various materials. A happy accident of sorts. How to represent University of Toronto Engineering without using their nasty logo? Just spell it out. Font choices reflect preferred focus and look & feel for each portion.Graphic Design, Art Direction, Typography2011
